Explanation of PTL Events

For those of you who are new to the school, the following is a brief description of the events PTL organizes each year.

Fundraiser Kick-Offs - At the beginning of each school year, we have a fundraiser selling a variety of items that can be chosen from a catalog. These items include wrapping paper, Christmas items, candy/snacks, magazines, etc. This year, PTL along with our fundraising co-chairpersons, have once again chosen to purchase from the Sally Foster Company. This has been a favorite among our school family. We like to do this particular fundraiser at the beginning of the school year so that we may have a chance to sell items around the time that Hamilton County schools begins their fundraiser.

We will also sell the ever-popular Cookie Dough, also from the Sally Foster Company, later in the fall, with dough delivery before the Christmas holidays.

PTL Open House – This is a catered dinner/meeting that PTL sponsors to give parents and other family members a chance to hear what we have planned for the year. It is also an evening to visit your child’s classroom, meet teachers and see some of the work that has been completed so far. Our hospitality team helps organize this event.

Carnival – For the first time, at least in many years, we will have a FALL carnival instead of in the spring. We are really looking forward to this since it will be, of course, a change from the typical time, but the fall itself brings a time of cooler weather, Halloween and a chance to have a different theme (fewer baseball/softball game conflicts as well.)

Founder’s Day – PTL assists our Development Department with this event that recognizes our alumni and the establishment of our school, which dates back to 1887! Typically, the event includes dinner and a silent auction. Money raised from this goes to the school’s scholarship fund.

Christmas Float Preparation – Each November and December, Chattanooga has two Christmas parades in which our school has participated for several years. The City of East Ridge parade is held the weekend before Thanksgiving, along with the City of Chattanooga/Downtown parade that follows at the beginning of December. We put together a float and gather participants for the parades.

Christmas Program – This is a school-wide event held on an evening during the week of the beginning of Christmas holidays. Each grade plays a part in the service. Hospitality helps with this event as well.

Candy Cane Shop – Undoubtedly a favorite among students, this is a week for the children to go “Christmas shopping” for their family and friends without having to be dropped off at the mall. From funds raised through PTL events, we are able purchase a variety of items from which they may choose. They, in turn, buy these items, have them wrapped by our “shop staff” and take them home to put under their Christmas tree!

Sock Hop – This is held on a Friday night (winter) and includes dinner with activities to follow, such as music, dancing, games, etc. in the gymnasium. Pre-K3 – 8th grades are invited to join.

National Lutheran Schools’ Week – As March approaches, you will be more informed of the week’s events, but in brief, each day has a fun theme with the week ending with a special day for grandparents.

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week – A time to honor teachers and staff, with each day offering a different way to shower them with gifts or services that show thanks for their hard work all year long.

Field Day – Held in mid-May, this event is for Kindergarten – 8th grade students. The day is filled with games and competitions such as softball and Frisbee tosses, races, Tug-of-war, etc. Students are treated to a hamburger cook-out as well.
