About Us :: History
When
Lutheran Christians organized the first congregation in the area,
one of the first most important decisions was to establish a
Christian day school. Lutheran churches have always provided for the
Christian training of their own children and anyone wanting to take
advantage of this wonderful opportunity to provide the best
education possible.
Established in 1887, Belvoir Christian Academy is Chattanooga’s first private
school. Pastor Friedrich served the school from its inception in
1887 through 1891, until the congregation was in a position to call
a teacher. The first site was located on Depot Street near the Choo
Choo.
In
1923, the school relocated to the corner of Hickory and Bennett
streets. It became a thriving three-room school. In 1949, a 10-acre
plot was purchased at the corner of Belvoir and Fountain Ave.
Planning began for the construction of a new modern building. The
new building was dedicated in 1951. A devastating fire struck the
school in 1972. A new school was literally built on the ashes of the
old one.
Belvoir Christian Academy provides the tools to shape children’s
futures as good Christian citizens.
Throughout its history,
Belvoir Christian Academy
has daily fed the lambs of
Christ’s flock with the pure milk of the Word. Many families have
been touched by the ministry of
Belvoir Christian Academy
teachers.
